Fun and frivolous in delivery, the BSL Taster Course is high energy because delegates love it. The most basic of sign language courses, it offers people with no past experience the chance to try out the language. Learners get a brief look at the basics, which includes the use of the eyes and facial expression to get a feel for what it is like to be Deaf and to see whether they would like to learn more.

A BSL Taster session is a single introductory session of around 2-3 hours and typically covers:
- Some basic vocabulary
- Fingerspelling basics
- Facial expressions
- Referencing / Pointing
Previous learners on taster courses have always enjoyed themselves and are often surprised by how easy they can pick up the language even though they’ve always considered themselves ‘rubbish at learning languages’.
