Level 6: Certificate in British Sign Language Studies

Level 6 Course – 2024/25

This year’s course will run on Thursday evenings, between 6pm and 9pm, along with a few Saturday morning sessions and social events.

Course Content

The Level 6 course will expose students to a range of complex language and vocabulary. Using brand new course material, students will learn to maintain fluent and accurate BSL over extended periods as well as understanding colloquial and idiosyncratic BSL. For more details of the course content, please check the specification.

Course Length

This course runs for roughly one academic year. The course will consist of 150 face to face teaching hours, 3 hours per week, plus attendance at social events arranged with members of the local Deaf community and plenty of self-study during the year.

Course Cost

The standard full course tuition fee is only £1450 plus an extra £288* in (optional) exam fees. DFLtd also offers the option of paying in monthly instalments over 3, 4 or 6 months.

*Exam fees are set by the awarding body; their 2024/25 fees have not been published yet, so may increase slightly.

Additional Costs

Learners will be expected to purchase resources for their coursework file.

How to enrol

Please note, it is recommended that entrants should already have the Level 4 Certificate in BSL Studies before embarking on the Level 6 Certificate programme.  Acceptance on the course is subject to a short, informal, face to face assessment; there is no charge for the assessment.
